Communion:
an act or instance of sharing
I will confess, that until recently, I have not been much of fan of the blog culture.
But atlas, I produced this sweet little PSA that ended with the message of if you aren’t doing something, you’re fucking the rest of us. It was designed to be dramatic and sensational, and frankly, a bit funny. But the point of the piece was to motivate people, not to remind them how powerful and influential we all are, and then leave them along twiddling their thumbs with nothing left to do. So I originally built the blog as a way that I could point to inspirational people who are doing really amazing things. Hence the title: Doing Something.
But in the meanwhile, I was stumped by the question, “but what am I doing aside from writing my fictions stories?” Well, I’ll tell you one of the things, and that is obsessing about consumption. How we consume, what we consume, why we consume, how to consume, when to consume, when not to consume.
Why would I share this? Because I live in the bay area and am aware that “the big one” could hit at any moment and everything I have could be lost forever? Because I am fascinated by this new element of sharing ourselves that tears down the walls and provides one more opportunity for us to see how we are connected? Because I wanted to do something, in the way that was truest to my very essence, and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my twisted way of thinking?
And….because I wanted to challenge myself to be a part of creating the walkway to a sustainable future. Most of us live in a culture where the media owns us. The are creating the story of our time, the mythology of our past, and future. Even as we walk through some of the darkest times in human history, we are also walking through some of the brightest most inpirational times. I am holding this little spot in the blogosphere to shed light on all of the amazing positive things that people are doing in hopes that it will inspire you. You. The reader. I hope you take strength, motivation, and find the information you need to activate and become a steward of this planet.
